The introduction of the new digital health ID card has been a game-changer for public healthcare in India. The digital health card was introduced under the umbrella of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) or the NDHM (National Digital Health Mission). The objective of the digital health ID card is to help insurance providers, hospitals, and health ID holders get access to digital health records securely.
A Livemint report stated that as of September, 2021, more than 1 lakh health ID cards were created under the NDHM (National Digital Health Mission), initially launched throughout 6 States and Union Territories as a pilot project on the 15th of August, 2021. The number has naturally increased exponentially ever since.
The digital health ID card is an identification card containing identifying information such as health records regarding the cardholder. The digital health ID card enables a seamless process for digitally sharing and accessing health records of cardholders.
Anybody willing to have accessible health records electronically should create this ID card. It is a 14-digit randomly generated number used for identification of citizens, verification and seamless access of health records (with consent) throughout healthcare systems.

You can readily apply for your digital health card which is created through your basic information and mobile number or Aadhar. You can link all health records with this ID.
