Digital Health ID Card – Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) / NDHM (National Digital Health Mission)

The introduction of the new digital health ID card has been a game-changer for public healthcare in India. The digital health card was introduced under the umbrella of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) or the NDHM (National Digital Health Mission). The objective of the digital health ID card is to help insurance providers, hospitals, and health ID holders get access to digital health records securely.

A Livemint report stated that as of September, 2021, more than 1 lakh health ID cards were created under the NDHM (National Digital Health Mission), initially launched throughout 6 States and Union Territories as a pilot project on the 15th of August, 2021. The number has naturally increased exponentially ever since.

What is the Digital Health ID Card All About? 

The digital health ID card is an identification card containing identifying information such as health records regarding the cardholder. The digital health ID card enables a seamless process for digitally sharing and accessing health records of cardholders.

Anybody willing to have accessible health records electronically should create this ID card. It is a 14-digit randomly generated number used for identification of citizens, verification and seamless access of health records (with consent) throughout healthcare systems.

How can you apply for a Digital Health ID Card? 

You can readily apply for your digital health card which is created through your basic information and mobile number or Aadhar. You can link all health records with this ID.

Here are the steps involved in the application procedure: 

  • You can apply at the official website or the NDHM Health Records mobile application.
  • You can also apply at partner health facilities like community health centres, private or public hospitals and clinics.
  • You can use either your driving license, mobile number or Aadhar number.

Through Aadhar- 

  • Go to https://healthid.ndhm.gov.in/ and choose Generate ID.
  • Choose Generate via Aadhar and enter the number on the page before submitting.
  • You will get an OTP at your registered mobile phone number.
  • Enter the OTP and then your personal details before selecting your password and username.
  • Login with your new password and username and give your address thereafter.
  • Download the digital health ID card and you are done!

Through Driving License- 

  • Go to https://healthid.ndhm.gov.in/ and choose Generate ID.
  • Choose Generate ID via Driving License. You will get a pop-up where it mentions how you will get your enrolment number once you provide your information.
  • Take this number to any nearby facility and get your health ID thereafter.

Through Mobile Number- 

  • Go to https://healthid.ndhm.gov.in/ and choose Generate ID. 
  • Choose Click Here if you avail the option for ID generation without any personal IDs.
  • Enter the mobile number, get the OTP and enter the same on the page.
  • Key in your personal details and select your password and username.
  • Login to the account with your new details and give your address.
  • Download the digital health ID card likewise.

Documents Required for Digital Health ID Card

You will basically require either your mobile phone number or your Aadhar number or your driving license.

The digital health ID card facility is open to all Indian citizens without any specific guidelines.

The National Digital Health Mission or Ayushman Bharat Health Mission has envisioned this one-of-a-kind digital health ID card for enhancing healthcare delivery, while making all individual health records readily accessible at the tap of a button. De-activation procedure of Digital Health ID Card

  • Login with your username and password.
  • Go to My Account before choosing Deactivate/Delete Health ID.
  • Deletion is permanent while de-activation is only temporary. You can click Continue for carrying out the process further.
