This is the most basic and compulsory requirement that you should have for riding a bike. A driving license serve as a permission letter to the bike owner to ride his/her bike. The test also specifies the type of two-wheeler that you are permitted to drive – with or without gear, and it is important for the bike owner to ride a two-wheeler as specified in the driving license.
Further, the Motor Vehicles Act of India, 1988 makes it compulsory for every person riding a bike to carry his/her license all the time when he/she is on the road. As per your comfort, you can carry the hard copy of the document or carry a soft copy by linking your license to the digital apps like mParivahan or DigiLocker.

The RC serves as an evidence that the bike is lawfully yours and that you have got it registered with your nearest RTO or Regional Transport Office. Yes, registering your bike with nearest RTO is an obligatory duty as per the law of the country that you must perform. The RC of your two-wheeler contains information about the registration number of your bike, the model number of your bike, make of the bike and the particular information about owner of the bike, among others.
Two-wheeler Insurance Policy
Another mandatory bike document to have when you ride your two-wheeler in India is your bike insurance policy. However, if you want you can choose to have a comprehensive coverage on your bike comprising of third-party coverage and coverage for your own bike damages. Like license and RC, you must also carry a copy of your two-wheeler insurance with you all the time as per the Motor Vehicles Act of India, 1988 with details like registration number, policy limit, details of insurance provider and tenure of insurance etc.
Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate
This certificate is needed to know the pollution level that is emitted by your two-wheeler. The certificate contains the number of registration of your bike and specifies the level of carbon monoxide that is released by your two-wheeler.
