Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which is commonly known as Autism, is a life-long condition that involves behavioural challenges faced by autistic people. History of World Autism Awareness Day 

The word ‘Autism’ first appeared in 1911 by Eugen Bleuler, a psychiatrist who used the term to describe a specific cluster of symptoms in schizophrenia. In 1943, Dr. Leo Kanner, a pediatric psychiatrist categorized Autism as a social and emotional disorder. In 1944, Hans Asperger described autism as a children’s disorder in which kids face difficulties with social and communication skills.

After enough research on the topic, the UN General Assembly set April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day, celebrated each year to encourage people in raising awareness about autistic people and to find new ways to improve the wellness of such people.

Light It Up Blue” is the theme of World Autism Awareness Day 2023. This year’s theme urges people to wear blue and to turn on the lights in their homes or businesses.
