How to Get PAN Card Corrections Online to Change Name, Address, and Other Details in PAN Card?

PAN or Permanent Account Number is a crucial identity proof for filing Income Tax returns. So, it is important to keep your PAN card updated all the time with the correct address and other details. If there is a mistake in the details of your PAN card, such as a spelling mistake in your name or gender, or if it requires an update on the address, or if you need a PAN card date of birth change, it must be rectified immediately.

It is crucial to correct any such issues on your PAN card as soon as possible using the PAN correction form online or offline as per your feasibility. Let’s take a look at the process in this post.

What is the Process to Make Corrections in PAN Card Online?

If you want PAN card corrections online to update your name, address, DOB, Mobile number, photograph, etc, you can do so through the official portal of UTIITSL and NSDL e-Gov. Let us take a look at the steps here:

1. Update PAN Card Online Through the NSDL e-Gov Portal

• Go to https://www.protean-tinpan.com, the NSDL e-Gov portal
• Select ‘PAN’ from the dropdown option on the ‘Services’ tab
• Look for ‘Change/Correction in PAN Data’ and press ‘Apply’
• Next, fill out the Online PAN application with details like application type, category, other details as required, and the CAPTCHA code. Click ‘Submit’
• You will get a token number on your registered email, which can be used later (in case of timeout to reach the draft of the form)
• Next, press ‘Continue with PAN Application Form’
• On the page that appears, you will find three options to choose from:
• Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)
• Submit scanned images through e-Sign
• Forward application documents physically
• Select the first option and select ‘Yes’ in case you need a physical copy of the PAN by paying a certain charge
• Go down and submit your Aadhaar number (last 4 digits)
• Update the required details further by ticking the relevant box
• Click ‘Next’ to go to the next page of ‘contact or other details’
• Submit the new address that you want to update and proceed further
• Now, attach proof of address and your PAN card copy
• Complete the declaration section
• Upload your photograph and sign. Click ‘Submit’
• You can see the form preview. Check the details to make sure they are correct, and enter the initial 8 digits of your Aadhaar Card number
• Once you submit the PAN card correction form, you will reach the Payment section
• Pay the amount using your preferred payment gateway and take a printout of a screenshot of the payment receipt.
• Click ‘Continue’ to complete the process with a KYC update
• Select the required checkboxes and click ‘Authenticate’
• You will receive an OTP on your mobile number that is registered
• Submit the OTP and enter the form for the online PAN application by clicking on ‘Continue’ and e-sign the form
• Also, tick the box of terms and conditions. Submit your Aadhaar number and press the ‘Send OTP’ button
•  Enter the OTP and verify to complete the PAN update process
• Now, you can generate your Virtual ID

2. PAN Correction Online Through the UTIITSL Portal

• Visit https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN, the UTIITSL portal
• Go to the ‘change/correction in the PAN card’ tab and press the ‘Click to Apply’ button
• Click ‘Apply for Change/Correction in PAN card details’
• Submit your PAN, choose the mode of PAN card, and choose the mode of submission of the documents. Click ‘Submit’
• You will get a number to use as a reference. Press ‘OK’ to proceed ahead
• Submit your address and name and press ‘Next Step’
• Now submit the PAN and verify. Press ‘Next Step’
• Upload the papers/documents and click on ‘Submit’
• It takes about 15 days for PAN card corrections online. Once your PAN card is dispatched, you will receive a message on the mobile number that is registered

How to do PAN card Updates Offline?

For PAN correction offline, here are the steps to follow:

• Download the PAN card correction form online
• Fill out the required details in the form. Submit the form along with the documents needed to a PAN center close to you
• Make the payment to receive an acknowledgment slip from the PAN center
• Send this slip to the NSDL Income Tax PAN Service Unit within 15 days to get the process done

What Documents Are Needed to Make Corrections on PAN Card Details?

• PAN card copy
• Documents for ID proof
• Documents for address proof
• Proof of DOB or date of birth

Fees Charged for Corrections and Updates of PAN Card 

The offline PAN card correction fee is INR 110. In case you want the PAN card to be dispatched somewhere beyond the Indian boundary, you must pay additional charges of INR 910.

Here is the fee charged for correction on the PAN card online:

• For physical mode submission of PAN applications to receive a physical dispatch of the card, INR 107 is the fee if the physical PAN card is dispatched within India. However, if the physical PAN card is dispatched outside India, the fee to be paid is INR 1,017.
• For a paperless mode of submission of a PAN application to receive physical dispatch of the card, the fee charged is INR 101 for dispatch in India and INR 1011 for dispatch outside India.
• If a PAN application is offered via physical mode to receive an e-PAN card, INR 72 is the fee charged if the PAN card is mailed to your registered email ID
• For PAN applications that are submitted using paperless modes to receive e-PAN cards, the charge levied is INR 66.

Why do you need PAN Corrections to keep your PAN card updated?

There are several reasons to change names on a PAN card. Also, you may want to change any spelling or any other mistake on the PAN card to keep it updated. Here are some reasons for the same:

• If the spelling of your name is wrongly spelled on the PAN card
• If you want to change the surname on your PAN card after marriage
• If there is any requirement to get your name changed legally, etc.
