National Youth Day was declared by the government of India on 12th January 1984 and the event has been celebrated since 1985 onwards. As already discussed, the day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, who was considered one of the greatest social leaders of India and respected by one and all.
The teachings of Swami Vivekananda not just inspired and influenced people in India, but the western world as well. The National Youth Day celebrates the achievements of Swami Vivekananda and honors his ideas and philosophies.
