The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is a pension scheme in India managed by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) for salaried employees to give them retirement benefits. In the event of any grievance or dispute, the organization allows the subscribers of EPF to register their complaints online through the EPFiGMS or the EPF i-Grievance Management System to get the grievances redressed faster.

What is EPFiGMS?

Employees Provident Fund i-Grievance Management System is the official grievance management portal of the EPFO that deals with complaints related to EPF. The portal can be used to register grievances, complaints, and queries of provident fund subscribers online.

This portal allows EPF subscribers to lodge complaints anywhere and anytime, which are then directed towards the concerned departments to get them resolved.

Once a subscriber registers a grievance, a unique registration number is generated in the system, and an acknowledgment is auto-generated through email and SMS.

Types of EPFO Grievances Which Can be Registered on EPFiGMS

EPF subscribers can file a grievance EPF on the official EPFiGMS portal for several issues. Some of them are mentioned below:

  • Subscribers can register complaints in case any PF balance/slip issue
  • They can register complaints regarding the transfer of PF corpus to a new EPF account
  • If the subscriber faces any issue regarding the final settlement of the pension, they can lodge a complaint
  • Any queries or grievances regarding the final settlement or withdrawal of EPF can be considered a type of EPFO grievance
  • For any EPF balance queries, a subscriber can raise a complaint
  • If you want an Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) Certificate, you can apply through EPFiGMS
  • Issues like cheque returned/misplaced can also be taken care of by the grievance’s portal

Who is Eligible to Register a Grievance on the portal of EPFiGMS?

If you are a subscriber of EPF, you can file complaints on the EPFiGMS portal. Below are the eligible members:

  • If you are an EPF member
  • If you are a pensioner of EPS
  • All Employers offering EPF service to employees, and
  • Other subscribers who do not possess UAN, PPO, or company number

How to File a Grievance on the EPFO Official Portal?

There is a streamlined process to lodge complaints on the EPFO portal. Individuals or EPF subscribers can easily use the portal in case of any issues with their accounts. Let’s take a look at the step-by-step procedure here:

  1. Go to the official portal of EPFO and navigate through the ‘Online Services’ menu
  2. Click on the tab of ‘Register Grievance’ from the drop-down menu
  3. Now, submit your details like your Universal Account Number (UAN), email address, etc.
  4. Next, you can select the grievance type from the drop-down menu of the grievance category and choose the complaint type
  5. Go to the column of grievance details and briefly describe the issue. Also, attach relevant documents required for verification
  6. Finally, press the ‘Submit’ tab. You will get an email with a unique grievance registration number for future reference

The concerned department will receive your complaint, and the process to resolve the issue will be initiated. You can use the registration number to track the status of your complaint on the official portal. You will also receive email notifications from the portal on the same.

How to Lodge a Grievance Using the EPFiGMS?

Grievances can also be registered through the customized EPFiGMS or EPF i-Grievance Management System, which is a portal especially dedicated to lodging grievances. This portal can be used by employers and pensioners, along with employees, to raise complaints related to EPF.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to https://epfigms.gov.in/, the official EPFiGMS portal. Click the ‘Register Grievance’ option from the top menu bar
  2. You will reach https://epfigms.gov.in/Grievance/GrievanceMaster. Click your appropriate category, such as PF Member/EPS Pensioner/Employer/Others
  3. Now, submit your details such as UAN/PPO (pension payment order)/Establishment number/Personal details and press the ‘Submit’ button
  4. Next, fill in the grievance details as well as attach the relevant papers
  5. Submit the complaint. You can track your complaint through the unique registration number that you would receive via email

How Do the EPF Complaints Online Reach the Right Departments/Channels?

Depending on the nature of the complaint or grievance, it requires the attention of the right department or official of EPFO. To make your complaint redressal process smooth and fast, the EPFO portal ensures that the grievance reaches the right person/place for fast redressal.

Here’s the process to send your complaints to the right place:

  1. Visit the EPFO portal and use your UAN and security code to log in to the portal
  2. Once you log in to the EPF grievance portal, click the ‘Raise Grievance’ tab
  3. Now, submit the required details and describe the grievance.
  4. Next, click the ‘Submit’ button to forward your complaint to the right department

The above steps will ensure that your complaint is routed to the concerned officials who are designated to resolve the concern. These officials may be stationed at the New Delhi head office or any regional office as per the grievance type.

The unique registration number you receive after submitting your EPF complaint on the portal will allow you to track the complaint status through the portal.

How to Track Your Grievance Status on the Official Portal? 

Once you have registered a PF complaint on the EPFiGMS portal, you can keep a tab on the progress of the grievance through the EPFiGMS portal as well as the EPFO portal. Here are the steps.

  1. Go to the EPFiGMS portal and click the ‘View Status’ option
  2. Enter the required details, like the unique registration number, mobile number/email ID, and the security code. Now, click the ‘Submit’ button
  3. The screen that appears will have the current status of your complaint displayed. You will also receive emails updating you on the progress of the complaint

How to Escalate EPF Grievances if they aren’t Resolved?

If a complaint is not resolved appropriately, you can take steps to escalate it. The first step in this direction is to contact the regional EPFO office and meet the Grievance Redressal Officer.

Alternatively, you may use the EPF Customer Care number to contact EPF customer service for further assistance. Moreover, you also need to check for updates on your email in case you have received any reminders on the status of your complaint. Most grievances are resolved by EPFO within 30 days.

  • Always double-check the details for any mistakes, like the correct email ID, phone number, etc., to receive notifications
