An e-Aadhaar card is an electronic version of your Aadhaar card, a password-protected copy, signed digitally by the concerned UIDAI authority. An e-Aadhaar card is equally valid as a physical Aadhaar card copy, and it can be downloaded by an Aadhaar cardholder from the official portal or mobile app of UIDAI.

An Aadhaar cardholder can download or print an e-Aadhaar copy or the digital copy of the card, which is available as a PDF, and use it for any official requirement. The PDF of the e-Aadhaar is safeguarded by a password, which you require to open the e-Aadhaar copy. The password of the PDF is the first four initials of the Aadhaar holder’s name and their year of birth.

This post discusses all the required details about an e-Aadhaar card password and how to open the e-Aadhaar PDF online. Read on!

What Do You Mean by e-Aadhaar?

As already discussed, an e-Aadhaar card is an electronic copy of your physical Aadhaar card. The e-Aadhaar is a password-protected copy signed digitally by the concerned UIDAI authority for authenticity and can be used interchangeably with your regular Aadhaar card for any official/government or other uses. You can download the e-Aadhaar card from the official portal of UIDAI or the mobile app of UIDAI.

What Is an Aadhaar Card Password?

The password of your e-Aadhaar card is a security feature that protects your personal information in the electronic copy of your Aadhaar from getting misused. Once the e-Aadhaar card is downloaded, you get a PDF file of the Aadhaar. To open this PDF file, you need the Aadhaar card password.

The Aadhaar password is easy to decode for the cardholder and is unique for each Aadhaar user. The password combines the initial 4 letters of the name of the Aadhaar cardholder in capital letters and the year of birth of the individual. For instance,

For a person named Shobhit Pandey with a birth year of 1985, the e-aadhaar password would be SHOB1985. Hence, after you download the PDF of your Aadhaar, you can apply the password to open the PDF file of the digital Aadhaar copy.

Similarly, if a person’s name is Sam Samuel and the year of birth of the person is 1990, the password would be SAMS1990.

This way, your private information remains safe from hacking and other threats.

What are the Advantages of an e-Aadhaar Card?

Your 12-digit Aadhaar number is a unique identification document and is required by every Indian as mandated by the Indian government. The card not only serves as proof of identity but also allows several other benefits, as mentioned below:
